We provide regular guided visits to the most secluded and beautiful places of Sintra's mountain range; with the support of our helpful, multilingual staff.


Two daily 4 hour visits.
Departures: Morning - 10H00; Afternoon -15H00.
Except on Monday

- Capuchos convent
- Pena palace (Closed on Monday)

An unforgettable discovery of Sintra's treasures! Our staff will give you thorough descriptions of the monuments. The tour ends by the Pena Palace from where you can then enjoy a walk along its large gardens or continue with us to the town centre.

- Óbidos e Alcobaça: The most visited medieval and walled city in Portugal – the feminine touch given by being wedding gift of several queens. Walk the fortress and walls, admire the white-washed doll-like houses embellished with flowers and visit the monastery founded according to famous Cluny.

- Palmela, Azeitão e Sesimbra: Pay a visit to a natural preserve that embraces one of the most impressive castles in Portugal, sample renowned hand-made cheeses and muscatel wine.

Full-day tours:

The Alentejo (South of Tagus River)

- Évora e Arraiolos: The city, capital of the Alentejo. Surrounded by wheat fields and cork oaks where roman and Arab traces came to us through temples and hand made rugs. This tour includes a visit to a knitting workshop.

 

- Évora, Vila Viçosa e Reguengos: Tour Évora and the royal family ancestral palace in Vila Viçosa featuring exquisite works of art and an exhibition of porcelain, carriages and armoury. Drive by marble quarries and visit of one of the largest wine facilities in Portugal with included tasting.

 

- Alter do Chão, Castelo de Vide e Marvão: Travel back in time to the 16th century and walk the ever in bloom peaceful streets of Castelo de Vide, visit the Jewish quarter and Synagogue and the overwhelming scenery from neighbour village - Marvão. Make friends with the Lusitano horse, anonimous hero of batles and bulfights.

The Centre

- Leiria, Marinha Grande e Batalha: Pay a visit to the medieval castle, learn the art of glass blowing while meeting the experts and find the secrets of the most famous battle of the Portuguese army and the monastery built to honour it with its breath-taking unfinished chapels.

- Conímbriga, Buçaco, Coimbra e Mealhada: The largest roman city in Portugal. Find its secrets and its nicely preserved mosaics. Visit the dramatic hunting lodge of King Carlos I – the artist and taste the suckling pig – a local delicacy. Mingle with the students and their fraternities; one of the oldest universities in Europe featuring a lovely gild decorated renaissance library.

- Aveiro, Costa Nova and Vista Alegre factory: Meet the canal city and the fishermen stripe coloured wood houses. Taste a gourmet fish stew and experience a tour of a porcelain factory which has been providing quality craftsmanship for over 200 years.

Pick up´s

Up & Down offers you free pick ups from Sintra, Cascais/Estoril hotels for the morning tour. We also offer free pick ups from Lisbon for the full-day tours.

Shuttle Services

Book with us your arrival or departure shuttle to/from the airport/train station to the hotel. Take advantage of fair, competitive prices and punctuality.

Per Person: €30 (mínimum of 2 people )

Per Group: €100 (mínimum of 4 people)

Walking tours

 

Sintra is the ideal location for getting back to nature. Its exceptionally good micro-climate is considered by many as the best in Europe. It is never too cold or hot, making it the ideal place for a walking tour. Choose one of our hiking tours and discover medieval temples, Islamic ruins and romantic palaces within the luxuriant vegetation of Sintra's mountain range.

Several three hour-long walking tours available, featuring two difficulty levels. Twice a day, starting at 10.30 AM and 3 PM.
